Hills rd adult ed. inspired by Peder Balke

I first saw Peder Balke’s paintings in the National Gallery, London, a few years back in 2014 and they really blew me away. From the otherworldly larger oils to the tiny monochromatic pieces. Balke is an interesting figure, a Norwegian artist striding the era between Romanticism and Modernism at the close of the 19th Century. His work largely explores his native landscapes, but given the extraordinary Norwegian fiords, northern lights and arctic conditions his painting is a feat of physical will over adverse environments that makes the impressionists ‘en plain air’ look like a stroll dans le parc 😉 . So I hope you enjoy the rather wonderful paintings made last night by adult developing artists at Hills road evening class. Many thanks to … Dom, Geoffrey, Catherine, Jara, Trevor, Helen, Martin…imageimageimageimageimageimage
