Drawing and painting gardens, trees

We enjoyed a Saturday morning in the sun at the university Botanic Gardens, a real treat. Starting to explore drawing trees through observing and drawing in line, tone and texture. Being aware of the structure and form of individual trees, the negative spaces created by branches and shadows. Then understanding the weight of these immense trees through the use of tone and trying to understand the forces the tree uses to stay upright through complex branch growth. Considering the networks of roots spreading through the earth and rooting our drawn trees onto the paper. Thanks to Sam, kelly, George, Cathy and Lynn for these beautiful drawings.
